It was during a prospecting mission targeted on the wind turbine sector in Denmark, realized by Burgundy Development Agency in November 2010, with the office « Northern European Countries » of the French Agency for International Investments, that the Burgundy region was able to promote its aptitudes in this field.
Profitable meetings with decision makers from large companies During this four day mission, Burgundy Development Agency demonstrated the interest of clustering regionally Wind for Future and more globally the knowledge of Burgundy companies already active in this field (CEOLE, SIAG, SFK, ...), those implicated in the manufacturing of metallic components for energy applications (AREVA, INDUSTEEL, GE THERMODYN, ...) as well as the laboratories of the University of Burgundy and other private research centers. Burgundy Development Agency met with the directors of about ten companies in the field (among others, DONG ENERGY, the largest Danish energy operator), the manufacturers of mechanical and metallic components, developers of wind turbine farms, as well as, RISOE, the Danish National Renewable Energy Research Center.

Investors order a feasibility study regarding a regional implantation
The Regional Development Agency was convincing: two companies have already confirmed through a detailed specifications sheet, their intentions to examine the implementation of a production unit in Burgundy.
It is due to the proximity of on-shore wind farms, the market potential and the presence in Burgundy of major French and foreign actors in the field as well as in the bordering areas that the two components manufacturers have shown their interest for the region. They could, thus, complete the value chain of the field.
